The fields are yours
The equipment section is not compulsory. A company adds its own fields, so a job can carry whatever your work actually needs instead of a serial number it will never have.
People see their own patch
Per-person permissions and locations work the same whether a location is a shop or a department. Money can be off for everyone who does not need it.
