By the time applications open, the families have already chosen.
Enrolment runs on a fixed annual cycle, and a school that starts marketing when applications open has already lost the families it needed. The site also has two readers at once: a parent weighing outcomes and tuition, and a child deciding whether they want to be there.
The tour was in October. The decision is in February. Your marketing starts in August.
Three things that make this trade its own problem
The calendar does not wait for you
Open houses in the fall, decisions in the winter, deposits in the spring. Begin when the application portal opens and you are talking to families who toured three other schools in October.
Accreditation gets checked early
A researching parent looks it up before they look at the photos, so it has to be named correctly and easy to find. On most school sites it is a small logo in the footer and nothing else.
Two readers, one page
A parent reading outcomes, matriculation and what tuition really covers, and a twelve-year-old deciding whether they can picture themselves there. Write only for the parent and the child talks them out of it in the car.
Where we would start
- Website DevelopmentAn admissions path built around open house registration and the enquiry-to-application journey, with outcomes and accreditation given real room rather than a footer.→

- Email MarketingEnquiry to tour to application. That sequence is the entire admissions funnel and it is usually run by hand, from one inbox, by somebody who also runs the open house.→

- SEOSchool-type-and-area pages plus the comparison content parents read a full year out — class sizes, what the day looks like, how financial aid works here.→

- Forms, Portals & AutomationsEnquiry, tour booking and application flows, so admissions stops living in a shared mailbox and a spreadsheet nobody else can read.→

Local or national — where this one is actually decided
Local and metro for a day school, genuinely national for boarding. Either way the calendar matters more than the geography, because the season decides when the page has to be ready.
