Coffee shops & roasters

The cafe and the roastery are two companies sharing a logo.

A cafe and a roastery are two companies sharing a logo. One is won by a map pin and a morning habit. The other competes nationally on origin, roast date and story, and lives or dies on whether the subscription is any good.

One business runs on footfall. The other ships beans to people who will never walk in.

Three things that make this trade its own problem

Two businesses, one homepage

Somebody looking for a flat white near them and somebody choosing between a washed Ethiopian and a natural Colombian want completely different first screens. Squash them together and both get weaker.

The subscription is bolted on badly

A roastery runs on repeat orders, and yet changing a grind, pausing for a fortnight or switching origin usually means emailing somebody and hoping they see it before Monday roast day.

Wholesale gets one line in the footer

Offices, restaurants and other cafes are the steadiest volume you have, and there is nowhere on the site for one of them to request a sample, ask about equipment, or reorder without texting you.

Local or national — where this one is actually decided

Split down the middle. The cafe is map-pack local; the roastery is national e-commerce. Same domain, two different SEO jobs, and pretending otherwise weakens both of them.
